Our Mission

Is to build a community of Corfu Locals that help Corfu Locals and visitors to Corfu Island enjoy their life here. We want to do this by:
1. providing access to a compilation of Corfu Island wisdom created and curated from the experiences, wit and knowledge of the incredible families that live on this island.
2. Provide a comprehensive list, guide and map of services and businesses on the island so that they thrive and the people needing their services have access to them.
3. Its also to welcome our visitors and to make tourism more sustainable and experiential. Creating an online platform that bridges the gap between locals and visitors, making Corfu Island a more accessible, sustainable, and enjoyable for everyone.

Corfu Local – the story

After working around the world for over 40 years, I have finally settled in Corfu.
Living in a location is different to visiting as a traveller. I have been visiting Corfu since 1977. It has changed a lot in that time. As a traveller to Corfu I was easily able to satisfy all my short term needs by asking a travel agent, or in more recent years, searching the internet.

However, since becoming a resident I have discovered that living in Corfu has a complex set of rules, and a complex way of dealing with those rules. I’m sure everyone who reads this has their own stories to tell (and I hope you do).

I am unable to find businesses that can supply my business needs as I don’t yet speak Greek, but even if I did, business is done in a completely different way here to what I’ve experienced before.
The health system, banking system, government (including taxation) systems are complex.
To complete simple tasks require multiple visits, just to find the right person to deal with. It is always slow, it is always complicated!

There has to be a way to simplify this complexity!

So after many months of deliberation and research, the idea of Corfu Local was born.
A place which acts as a central database of information, knowledge and data, collated from the broad Corfu population. Where this combination of data, information & knowledge transforms to the site visitor into shared insight and wisdom. A place to simplify the complex. To enhance the lifestyles of all who live here.

But it is more. Corfu relies on tourism for the majority of its income, but a large percentage of the community is not able to access the tourism dollar and a large percentage of the tourists do not access authentic Corfu experiences, so Corfu Local is also designed to bridge that gap by connecting the dots.

So, even though my journeying has found an end, my life’s purpose is still exploration and adventure.

My next years will be a deep dive into Corfu. My own Odyssey.
To build an asset for the whole island to benefit from.
To make life more accessible and less complex for residents and visitors.
To spread the incoming tourism wealth wider, to more locals.
To make the visitors journey here more rewarding and authentic and infinitely more sustainable.

This is the purpose and reason for Corfu Local, and me
